Children's Online Privacy Protection Act
A US federal law that imposes requirements on websites and online services directed at children under 13, or that knowingly collect personal information from children. COPPA requires verifiable parental consent before collecting children's data and limits what data can be collected. AI systems that interact with minors face additional COPPA scrutiny, particularly generative AI chatbots accessible to children.
