Data Provenance

Documentation of a dataset's origin, collection method, permissions, and chain of custody. Provenance answers "where did this data come from and did we have the right to use it?" In the context of AI training data, provenance is becoming a legal and regulatory requirement -- the EU AI Act requires training data summaries, and copyright litigation increasingly focuses on whether training data was properly licensed.
