Intangible Asset

A non-physical asset with economic value -- software, patents, trademarks, customer relationships, proprietary data. In technology M&A, intangible assets often represent 80-90% of the purchase price. Proper valuation of intangibles under ASC 805 (business combinations) requires identifying and separately valuing each category, which is where most buyers need specialized help.
