PII

Any data that can identify a specific individual, either on its own (name, SSN, biometric data) or in combination with other information (zip code + birth date + gender). Different regulations define PII differently -- GDPR uses "personal data" more broadly than most US frameworks. Understanding what constitutes PII in your data inventory is the starting point for any privacy compliance program.
